Stirling Albion ace Sean Dickson says it’s time for the Binos to prove they are capable of challenging for promotion to League One when they take on Queen’s Park on Saturday.

He believes the Binos will be out to get revenge for the two defeats they have suffered at the hands of the Spiders this season and admits it is the start of a crucial period for the Forthbank side.

Dickson told Stirling News Sport: “It is a huge game. We have a couple of games in hand over a couple of teams and beating them would be huge. We’ve also got the game against Elgin, who are right up at the top. It would be a massive six points if we could get them.

"We're not far off the top and we have a couple of games in hand, so it is still all to play for. It would be huge if we could get a result on Saturday because although they have done us over twice this season there has not been a lot between the teams. The boys will be well up for it.

“I don’t think there is any extra pressure on us. Every game is a big game for us and we want to go on a run. A run of five or six wins would get us right up there so we obviously want to do that but I don’t think that has put us under any extra pressure.”

Dickson says there is a real feel-good factor around the club and paid tribute to the fans, who turned out in big numbers again for Tuesday’s Scottish Cup replay in Inverness.

He said: “We have a really good group and that helps you a lot in part-time football. At the start of the season the squad needed a bit of time to gel together and we have done that. We have a great dressing room.

"Maybe the supporters weren’t happy with us at the start of the season because with the club bringing in the players we did, they maybe expected us to hit the ground running. It didn’t really work out like that, but we have turned it round and they are buzzing again.

"Against Inverness it was just ridiculous that a hundred of them travelled up with the game on television, and they would not stop singing. They stayed behind and applauded us off the park. At home games there have been bigger attendances recently as well so there is a really good buzz about the place.”

The Binos eventually lost out to Premiership side Inverness but the former Stenhousemuir and East Fife midfielder says there is much to be proud of and that the performance can kick-start Albion’s bid for promotion.

Dickson added: “They are the holders and they have proved that they are a good Premiership team over the past few years. To get a draw with them at home and then lose 2-0 away is not shameful, especially because they have scored two cracking goals.

"It is not as though they have waltzed by us or we have made mistakes. It’s disappointing to lose but I think we are all happy with the performance.

“It has got to provide that platform. Every so-called smaller club loves a cup run financially but the chances of a club like Stirling Albion getting to the final are slim to none. Our bread and butter is the league so we really need to kick on now and try and win it.”
