STIRLING ALBION ……………………..1 BERWICK RANGERS…………………..3 Stirling Albion endured another dismal afternoon as they lost out to Berwick Rangers at Forthbank.

A Craig Comrie own goal opened the scoring and Finn Graham added a second, before Blair Henderson put the result beyond doubt. Willie Robertson netted a consolation for the Binos but the result capped a miserable week for Stuart McLaren’s side.

Stirling started brightly and almost took the lead in the first minute when Ross McMillan rose to meet Comrie’s free kick, but his header was superbly saved by Mark Walters.

Sean Dickson should have opened the scoring when the ball fell to him in the six yard box, but he failed to make any contact with the ball from Lee Hamilton’s cutback, before Sandy Cunningham had a goal ruled out for offside.

The hosts were made to pay for their missed chances when Berwick scored a quick-fire double just before the interval. First Comrie turned Darren Lavery’s cross into his own net, before the striker set up Finn Graham who made no mistake with his finish which ricocheted in off Chris Smith’s post.

The first chance of the second half fell to Henderson who rose to meet Ewan McNeil’s cross, but his header came back off the post.

However, the big striker would add to his side’s advantage with 24 minutes to play. Once again it was McNeil with the cross and the Berwick number nine was on hand to turn the ball beyond Smith.

Robertson gave the home side a glimmer of hope when he pulled a goal back with a fine strike from just inside the area.

But Berwick looked the more likely side to score in the closing stages and Smith had to be alert to deny Michael McKenna and Andrew Russell in the closing seconds.

Cunningham had the final chance of the game, but saw his effort saved by Mark Walters as the Binos slipped to their second league defeat in the first three games of the season, and now find themselves second-bottom of the League Two table with just one point.
