THE Scottish SPCA is currently caring for an adorable otter cub named Misty.

She arrived into the care of their National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross on December 22.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted after the 10-week old cub was spotted crossing a road near Oban.

Centre manager Colin Seddon said: “We named the cub Misty as she is very small and mist is made up of tiny droplets of water.

“Any otter who comes in from this point on will carry a water themed name.

“She was difficult to feed when she arrived as she wouldn’t take a bottle but we were able to get her onto fish and she is now going from strength to strength.

“Otters usually remain with their parents until they’re around a year old.

“Misty is far too young to be on her own and wouldn’t have been able to survive in the wild if she hadn’t been found.

“She will be reared with another otter cub of a similar age, called Fin, who arrived into our care on Boxing Day after being discovered in Fintry.

“Misty will be released in around  a years’ time when she is mature enough to fend for herself in the wild.”

Anyone who discovers an injured or distressed wild animal should call the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
