CUSTOMERS who have bought Rooster's Poppin' Chicken from Aldi have been urged to return the product as it may contain pieces of plastic.

A recall has been initiatied by the supermarket as "precautionary measure".

The notice from the Food Standards Agency said: "Aldi is recalling its Rooster’s Southern Fried Poppin’ Chicken because they may contain small pieces of hard plastic which could present a safety risk.

"If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."

The product is the Southern Fried Poppin' Chicken 210g package, from Rooster's.

Its product code will be either 45004 or 75744 and the batches affected will have a lot number of 10101701.

The best before date will be 09/04/2019.

Aldi made the announcement over the weekend via an official notice.

It read: "As a precautionary measure, we have initiated a recall of this product as it may contain small pieces of hard plastic material.

"Please do not consume this product.

"Customers are asked to return this product to the nearest store, where a full refund will be given.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation."
