PLANS to create a mixed use development with exclusive housing for the over 60s and leisure uses, have been submitted to Stirling Council.

A joint planning application by Caledon Properties|TDL, leading retirement housebuilder McCarthy & Stone, Raploch Urban Regeneration Company Landholdings Limited and NHS Forth Valley has been lodged to develop the land at Customs Roundabout, between Union Street, Back O’Hill Road and Drip Road.

The land is currently owned by the Raploch Urban Regeneration Company, Cowane Trust and NHS Forth Valley.

The overall development of the site will provide a mix of uses including a residential block of 48 one and two-bedroom apartments specifically designed for people over sixty.

The commercial development by Caledon |TDL takes up the prominent north-east part of the site and will provide two drive-through units and accommodation for neighbourhood facilities including retail and leisure uses. The existing community health centre is retained.

Iain Wotherspoon of Caledon Properties | TDL said: "The partners are working together to develop plans that will benefit local people and add to the mix of housing, leisure and retail options in the area.

"The setting of Customs Roundabout provides an opportunity to bring forward meaningful and comprehensive development of a site that is currently under-utilised."

Russ Stewart, development director of McCarthy & Stone in Scotland, commented on the submission: "We believe this site is an ideal location for retirement housing, which will help to bring much-needed older people’s housing to the area as well as help invest in the local economy."
