LOCAL Naturalist has made the Shortlist for the 2017 UK Awards for Biological Recording and Information Sharing

Dan Watson, 48, from Killin, in Stirling, has been shortlisted in the ‘Gilbert White Adult Award for terrestrial and freshwater wildlife’ category of the 2017 UK Awards for Biological Recording and Information Sharing.

These annual awards started in 2015, and have been developed by the National Biodiversity Network, the National Forum for Biological Recording and the Biological Records Centre. Their intention is to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions made to biological recording by adults and young people, which is helping to improve our understanding of the UK’s wildlife.

Dan Watson said: “I am fascinated with nature, particularly that of Scotland’s mountains, and have long been motivated to record it and share what I have found. A lot of what drives me is finding things that are new, whether that is something I have never seen before, a new population of a rare plant or moth, or something common in a new place. There’s nothing to beat exploring a craggy area rich in plant life as you never know what you might find.”

The winners of the 2017 UK Awards for Biological Recording and Information Sharing will be announced at a special ceremony on Thursday 16 November during the National Biodiversity Network's annual conference in Cardiff.
