PUPILS at Dunblane Primary were thrilled to get the chance to have their pictures taken with the Wimbledon replica trophy.

The Jaguar Andy Murray Trophy Tour team visited the school on Monday, June 19.

It’s the first time the replica gilt cup has been on a UK tour which is designed to help inspire the nation to get involved in tennis.

The Dunblane school was singled out for a visit because Andy is a former pupil.

Scott Dicken, head of marketing, Jaguar Land Rover UK, said: "As Andy is a former pupil of Dunblane Primary, we chose to include the school as part of the UK tour.

"The children, acting head teacher Sarah Starrs and her staff were fantastic to work with and really enjoyed the event. Hopefully, the pupils will be inspired to become the next generation of tennis talents.

"We would like to thank everyone involved, including Provost Christine Simpson and council leader Councillor Scott Farmer, for joining in the activities and for making us feel very welcome."

Andy Murray was given the freedom of Stirling in 2014.

Provost Christine Simpson said: "Andy Murray is a wonderful role model for the children and inspires youngsters to not only take part in tennis, but other sports which have so many health and wellbeing benefits."

Councillor Farmer said: "It is a very proud moment for the school and Dunblane. The pupils have come together to celebrate their local hero Andy Murray who helps motivates children to reach their full potential."

Sarah Starrs, acting head teacher, said: "We are delighted to host Andy’s replica Wimbledon Trophy at the school and the children enjoyed getting their pictures taken with the replica trophy.

"We are immensely proud of our former pupil and he is a true inspiration to our children. He has demonstrated that with hard work, commitment and dedication you can achieve greatness.

"We will all be cheering and willing him to win the trophy for a third time this year."
