THE Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) will make a welcome return to Callander.

Following the success of last year’s string concert, it will be at McLaren High School on Thursday, June 8.

The concert, which kicks off the Orchestra’s Summer Highland Tour, is part of Callander’s annual Summerfest – an early programming addition outside of the festival’s mid-July dates.

This year’s programme will feature the full orchestra, throwing the spotlight on one of the SCO’s most charismatic and compelling soloists, clarinettist Maximiliano Martín.

Led by acclaimed South African conductor Gerard Korsten, the concert programme has a distinct Scandinavian flavour and features works from some of the finest romantic composers to date.

Getting the concert off to a sprightly, energetic start is Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg’s supremely well-crafted work, Holberg Suite, Op 40.

Fin composer, Bernard Crusell’s Romantic Clarinet Concerto will be brought to life by the SCO’s Principal Clarinet Maximiliano Martín.

Rounding up the evening are Lars-Erik Larsson’s Pastoral Suite, Op 19 and Franz Schubert’s Symphony No 3 in D.

SCO is made up of a unique collection of talented musicians who are committed to bringing high quality music to communities across the length and breadth of Scotland.

This concert launches the orchestra’s extensive summer touring programme which will run from June to September, showcasing the talents of SCO principal players as soloists.
