STUDENTS at the University of Stirling have picked up two accolades.

At the NUS Scotland Awards on Friday, March 24 the student union won Campaign of the Year, while Simron Kandola was named Student of the Year.

Receiving recognition was The Big Rent Campaign, launched in response to increasing rent costs and a lack of affordable housing in Stirling.

Meanwhile, Simron was mentioned for the time he has given to volunteering – his work included launching the Volunteering Society and helping the university establish positive links with the community.

Vonnie Sandlan, president of NUS Scotland, said: "It was a great honour to help present the NUS Scotland Awards at our national conference in Dundee.

"These awards are a celebration of the hard work and huge impact that students’ associations and individual students have on campuses and in communities across Scotland, and the life changing work they do.

"As well as recognising individual achievements, the awards that celebrate the diversity of our institutions, and initiatives that create new and exciting opportunities for students.

"I’d like to extend my deepest congratulations to the winners and nominees."
