Local piper Craig Muirhead was chosen to play the gig of his lifetime by closing T in the Park with a rendition of Flower of Scotland.

Craig, from Stirling, took to the legendary Radio 1 Stage at midnight, following an impressive set from headliners, The Prodigy, to entertain thousands of music fans with one last tune.

As well as working as a piping instructor at Strathallan School, he tours the world with the award-winning ScottishPower Pipe Band, thanks to its continued funding from the ScottishPower Foundation.

The Pipe Band has won numerous accolades including Twice Cowal Champions, Scottish Champions, All-Ireland Champions and runners-up in the World Championships. Craig and the ScottishPower Pipe Band are currently preparing for the World Pipe Band Championships, which take place in Glasgow this August.

The ScottishPower Pipe Band has played for audiences including the Pope, the Queen and Sir Paul McCartney, but the highlight of Craig’s piping career was closing Scotland’s favourite music festival, in his adopted hometown.

Craig said: “Being on stage at T in the Park and playing out Flower of Scotland was an amazing experience. It’s one of my favourite songs to play and seeing everyone join together and sing along was a moment I’ll never forget.

“I’m lucky that I get to play with the ScottishPower Pipe Band and entertain crowds around the world with traditional Scottish music. But it was particularly special to perform today on the same stage as The Prodigy, David Guetta and Idlewild and to look out into the crowd and see that regardless of their musical tastes, Scots will always be passionate about piping.”
