The Queen’s Baton made a welcome return to Stirling a year on from the fantastic summer of sport in 2014.

First stop was Dunblane High School, where children that were taking part in Active Stirling’s Get active and Mix dance camps got the opportunity to have their picture taken with the Baton. The Baton then made its way to Stirling’s Sports Village where members of the public and children that were taking part in the Active kids Summer holiday programme activities also got the opportunity to have their photo on the podium holding the Baton.

Andrew Bain, Active Stirling’s chief executive said: “It was great having the Baton back in Stirling; it gave the opportunity for people that missed the Baton Relay last year a chance to see it up close. It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since the fantastic spectacle that was 2014 and having the Baton back at Stirling Sports Village is a fantastic reminder of the positive impact sport and physical activity can have on our lives.” Stirling Council’s Community Planning and Regeneration Vice Convener, councillor Martin Earl, added: “It’s great that the baton returned to Stirling, giving the community the chance to celebrate the legacy of last year’s Commonwealth Games. Events like this are the perfect way to encourage children to take part in sports and experience the excitement of the Games. The legacy continues, with a strong programme of sports and activity for communities right across Scotland, and I’m delighted that Stirling is benefiting from this.” If you are looking for sporting activities for your children to attend over the school holidays, Active Stirling have a wide range of activities on offer across the area including tennis, swimming, gymnastics, athletics, football, PEAK camps, pre-school activities and also for the first time family/group based activities including; rock climbing, open canoeing and adventure walks so you can experience great outdoor activities as a family or group.
