The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a pair of cockerels were abandoned at a farm in Stirlingshire.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted last Sunday (18 January) after a member of the public reported finding the birds inside a cardboard box in Killearn.
The cockerels are now in the care of the charity’s Edinburgh Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Balerno, where they have been named Tom and Jerry.
Inspector Louise Seddon said: “It’s a real shame these guys have ended up in this situation as it looks like they’ve been well looked after before they were dumped.
“Both Tom and Jerry are in great condition and have good temperaments and we would urge anyone who has information about the birds to contact us.
“The cockerels are now looking for new homes so we would also like to hear from anyone who is interested in rehoming them.” Abandoning and causing an animal unnecessary suffering animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
