STIRLING music charity The Scribbler’s Picnic has donated £4000 to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The money was raised through events such as The Scribbler’s Picnic festival held in May and included donations gifted from the funeral of Jim MacGowan, who had personal connections with the non-profit group and passed away from cancer earlier this year.

Since it was launched following the death of Stirling man Graham Whitelaw in 2001, who battled with cancer, the team has raised more than £100,000 for charitable causes.

Graham’s daughter Katy said: “It is very traumatic watching someone you love get a cancer diagnosis and then going through treatment. The Macmillan staff do an amazing job. You can’t put a price on the care and support that they give to those suffering from cancer and their family members. We are proud to have been able to help in our own way and would like to thank all the volunteers, businesses and Scribbler’s supporters who helped make this donation possible.” The donation to Macmillan is the first of many to be made by the charity in the forthcoming months.

Pauline Macmillan, fundraising manager for Fife and Forth Valley for Macmillan Cancer Support, welcomed the money raised.

She said: “The money donated will go a long way to funding vital services and support for local people affected by cancer. I am delighted to accept £4000 from The Scribblers Picnic and I am very much looking forward to next year’s event.

“To put this generosity into context, £3917 could pay for a Macmillan social worker or family support worker for one month. They work with community and social services agencies to help people manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.

“Very soon it will be a fact that one in two of us will receive a cancer diagnosis at some point in our lives. This money really makes a difference and can make sure that Macmillan Cancer Support is there to support every single person affected by cancer. We want to make sure no one faces cancer alone, and with your help, no one will.” For further information about The Scribbler’s Picnic visit www.scribblerspicnic.co.uk or find them on facebook/scribblerspicnic.
