Bridge of Allan resident Stephen Kerr has been selected to fight for the Stirling Constituency for the Scottish Conservatives at next year’s General Election.

This follows a selection contest held in Bridge of Allan last weekend.  Stephen was born in Dundee and moved to Stirling in 1982 as a student. He and his wife, Yvonne, have lived in the area ever since, raising their four children, all of whom went to local schools and eventually followed in their father’s footsteps and studied at Stirling University.  Stephen works as a sales leader in an international business. With responsibilities across western Europe, he has a practical experience of building a successful business which contributes positively to real economy.  Speaking about the forthcoming election, Stephen said: “I am hugely honoured to be selected by my party to fight for our long term economic plan here in Stirling.

“People know that Labour is not to be trusted with the economy and that the SNP only offer more instability. With a Conservative majority in Westminster, Stirling will continue to enjoy the fruits of the economic recovery.

“Unemployment in Stirling is down to pre-recession levels, taxes have been lowered to take the lowest paid out of taxation altogether and our benefits cap is making welfare fair for all – we have a record to be proud of and I look forward to making our positive case on the doorsteps.”  Neil Benny, the Conservative group leader on Stirling Council, added: “Stephen is a pragmatist, but he is someone with principles and firm convictions. He is a tenacious campaigner. Honest and positive, voters can expect Stephen to lead a forthright campaign.” Stirling Conservatives selected their candidate at a packed meeting in Bridge of Allan last weekend.  The local association has seen an increase in local party membership since the referendum in September.
