NINETY-SEVEN people laced up their walking boots in aid of Alzheimer Scotland’s Stirling Memory Walk.

Organised by the Stirling & Clackmannanshire Service and the local Branch of Alzheimer Scotland, the event on Sunday 21 September has raised around £925 so far, excluding gift aid and paper sponsorship.

Ruth McCabe, the deputy regional manager for the area, said, “Everyone really seemed to enjoy the walk, including the children and the dogs. It was a beautiful day which really helped. Mike Robbins the Stirling Provost led us off with a few words and to the tune of the pipes played by Andrew Ward a local piper.

“It felt like a really positive family event. We were delighted with the turnout and just hope to see everyone again next year. All the money raised from the walk will go towards the Alzheimer Scotland services in the Stirling and Clackmannanshire area.

“The local branch are now making plans for their next fundraising event which will be a Coffee Morning in Menstrie Parish Church on the 8th November from 10.00a.m. until noon and, as with the walk, all the money raised will be spent locally. We hope that many of the people who supported the walk will come along and support us again.” This was the first year a series of local Alzheimer Scotland Memory Walks took place across Scotland and their success means that local walks are likely to become an annual event for the charity.

The Stirling Walk took place in partnership with the Stirling Dementia Friendly Working Group and was held at the Dementia Services Development Centre at the Iris Murdoch Building on the Stirling University Campus.

The walk was well supported by local businesses in both Stirling and Clackmannanshire.

Many participants have sent their photos, videos and Vines to Alzheimer Scotland and these have been shared on the @alzscot Twitter feed.
