SCOTLAND’S longest running women’s samba band is on the look-out for new recruits.

Beat That has more than 20 members from across Central Scotland – including Alloa, Perthshire and Glasgow – and plays at festivals, community fetes, gala days and has occasional forays to events further afield in Europe.

Based in Stirling, the band first came together for an International Women’s Day workshop in 1992.

During 2014 it has played at Stirling’s Big Night Out, Glasgow Women’s 10k and West End Parade, various Commonwealth Games events and Belladrum Tartan Hearts Festival near Beauly.

A couple of free taster sessions will be held, on Saturday 4 and Saturday 18 October.

Group chair Ailie Millen said, “It’s not like a class you join for a term then move on. It’s much more like a social club made up of a great bunch of women who happen to like doing something a little bit different in their spare time.” You don’t need musical experience or your own instrument to join and if you’re interested in finding out more, or having a go, contact info@beat-that.co.uk
