A giant hay bale caused traffic chaos in Stirling when it fell from a trailer and blocked a main road last Monday (29 September).

A tractor was pulling a trailer loaded with round bales along the A9 near the city centre when the accident happened at around 4.20pm.

The stray bale landed on the Burghmuir Road, blocking it completely near the Craigs Roundabout, causing lengthy tailbacks.

Motorists were diverted through the city while a second tractor was sent to recover the bale.

A police spokeswoman said: “The incident involved one bale of hay. The road was briefly closed. The hay has been cleared up and road is now open.” One motorist, who asked not to be named, texted: “A farmer has dropped hay onto the roundabout at the Thistles Centre and its chaos. Hay everywhere and people of their cars.” Another said: “At rush hour, something like this is the last straw.”
