A HILLWALKER collapsed and died while walking up Dumyat on Monday afternoon.

The unnamed man, who is believed to be from the local area, took ill while just 400 metres from Sheriffmuir Road atop the Ochil Hill.

The emergency services were called around 4.50pm and two ambulance crews, including the ambulance special operations response team and an ambulance service manager, were dispatched. They were soon joined by members of Ochil Mountain Rescue Team.

Paramedics battled to save the walker but he was pronounced dead at the scene and mountain rescuers helped stretcher the body off the hill to the waiting ambulance.
