A chill was in the air at Bridge of Allan Primary School as three teachers faced a soaking for charity.

Headteacher Lina Horsburgh and depute heads Julie Russell and Jo Allan took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge and each had 10 buckets of freezing cold water poured over them in the school’s playground last Friday (24 October).

Parents, children and staff had pledged donations to watch and in the end the event raised a massive £700 for charity.

The money will be split between Kidney Kids, the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and Macmillan Cancer Support – all charities picked by pupils on the school’s Junior Management Team.

Depute head Julie Russell was delighted with the funds raised.

She said: “When the children returned to school in August, the Ice Bucket Challenge was at its height and pupils and parents kept telling us all they were nominating us.

“There were so many nomination that we decided we really had to go ahead and do it and in public too.” The senior management team decided to invite pledges from families and classes for each soaking and ended up with enough donations to fund 10 buckets each.

They were chucked over the women’s heads by pupils and the school janitor Craig Teasdale while parents, staff and other pupils watched and cheered.

Mrs Russell added: “It was absolutely freezing and the water seemed to trickle down my neck for ages.

“But it was well worth it for the amount of money raised and the community spirit which everyone showed.

“It was a really fun event and we had some great feedback about it – everyone really enjoyed it – even those of us who got such a soaking.”
