STAFF at a Stirling optician have raised nearly £3,000 to help pay for vital repairs to the roof of the Strathcarron Hospice.

Workers and their family members from Specsavers Stirling took part in the sponsored 10k walk around the city.

Store director Susanne Akil said: "The sponsored walk was a fun way for our team and their families to spend time together while raising money for this very worthy cause."

Despite initially hoping to raise £1,000, the group more than doubled their target by reaching £2,788.

The funds will go to the hospice's 'Raise the Roof' appeal, which will pay for essential repairs that are needed for the charity to continue operating.

Claire Macdonald, the hospice's business development fundraiser said: "Thank you to Specsavers Stirling for helping to “raise the roof” here at Strathcarron Hospice.

"We need to raise £50,000 to fund vital roof repairs and the money raised by the team will go a long way in helping us to achieve this."
