AN OPEN day will be held at The Butterfly Garden in Clackmannan next weekend.

The event will celebrate the first year of the creation of the new community spot, alongside receiving the Community Impact Award during the Volunteers Awards Ceremony held by Clackmannanshire Third Sector Interface (CTSi).

The Clackmannan Community Garden Committee will welcome people on Saturday, July 14, from 11am until 4pm.

Margaret Schofield, chairperson, said: “Everybody can get involved in their local outdoor spaces. They are a shared resource and a shared responsibility.

"From the smallest individual action to a national campaign, every contribution helps.

"The Butterfly Garden group has recently been awarded funds from Tesco’s Bags of Help scheme, as well as holding a fundraising bag pack, and we would like to thank everyone for their generosity."

The team is calling on the community to lend a hand to improve the environment and to get involved in the project while it is developing.

The activity is part of the Volunteering Matters Action Earth campaign with grant funding provided by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH).

Volunteering Matters Action Earth will be supporting around 170 projects in Scotland in 2018 with grants of up to £500.

These grants are aimed at groups who help volunteer activity through practical environmental projects.

Anyone who is interested in getting involved can contact Lesley Shaw, community development officer at Clackmannan Development Trust (CDT), on 01259 219473.
