WEE COUNTY commuters are being told to avoid the A985 as firefighters tackle a wildfire at Devilla Forest.

Fire crews are currently in attendance after the blaze started at around 2pm.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 2.03pm on Monday, July 9 to reports of a wildfire near Kincardine.

“Operations Control mobilised a number of fire engines to the scene at Devilla Forest and firefighters are working to contain and extinguish the flames.

“There are no casualties.

“Crews currently remain in attendance.”

Police Scotland have advised local residents to shut their windows and doors to avoid the smoke coming from the blaze.

Donald Campbell, chair of Kincardine Community Council, said the village has been covered in a "blue haze".

He added: "The smell of the smoke is quite strong and it has left a blue haze over the village.

"There's been some ash in amongst it, and the smoke smells like an undergrowth."
