MOTORISTS are being advised to expect disruption when the latest phase of improvement works on the A985 Kincardine Bridge begins on Wednesday.

The work – which will include the waterproofing, resurfacing and joint replacement works on two spans – is due to last until July 13.

It is hoped the £260,000 project will benefit over 6,000 vehicles which use this bridge each day by improving the condition of the carriageway, increasing its structural longevity and reducing the need for future, more extensive maintenance.

To allow the work to take place, there will be full bridge closures from 8pm on Wednesday until 6am on Saturday morning.

During this time, traffic will be diverted across the Clackmannanshire Bridge.

From Saturday, the works will switch to single lane closures, controlled by temporary traffic lights.

The work has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Stagecoach Bus, Road Hauliers and Freight Transport Associations, Marine Scotland, Forth Ports, Scottish National Heritage, the Community Council and Fife Council.

Traffic journey time monitoring equipment will be used to monitor any traffic delays through the works with real-time updates provided to the travelling public through variable message signage.

Traffic delays are expected during construction, particularly at peak times, with a maximum delay of fifteen minutes anticipated. Road users are therefore asked to be patient during the works.

Throughout the duration of the works, the pedestrian footways and cycle paths will remain open – even during night-time full bridge closures – although cyclists will be instructed to dismount when using the cycle path across the bridge.

Real-time journey information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org or via Twitter: @Traffic Scotland Enquiries.
