PEOPLE will be taken back to the bygone years of Alloa during a talk on the town’s street names next week.

Linda McLeod will share her knowledge on local history as part of a meeting of Alloa Community Council on Tuesday, May 29.

She will cover several areas, such as Smithfield Meadows, Victoria Street, Dirleton Gardens, Norwood Avenue and Inch View, to name just few.

Linda, who is also chair of support group Breathe Easy Clackmannanshire, began speaking about the topic through the Auld Clackmannanshire Facebook page.

She has since given quite a few presentations to local Women’s Guild and church groups.

Linda said: “The first presentation I gave was at an Auld Clackmannanshire members and friends night at Gean House a few years ago where I showed old photos, etc.

“The second event they had I showed history of the streets.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy it, so I started researching more and came across a lot of interesting and unusual facts.”

The talk on street names will take place at 8pm at Alloa Town Hall, in one of the upstairs rooms.

This is the latest event organised by the community council, which hosted artist Karen Strang for a discussion on witchcraft trials in the area in February.

On what to expect, Linda added: “It’s a power point presentation I do which shows the origins of some of the Alloa street names, showing photos of the people etc they are named after.

“People can expect a glimpse into the bygone times of the town.”
