A FAMILY-RUN laundry business celebrated a huge milestone yesterday after completing 30 years of service in the Wee County.

Riverbank Laundry first opened its doors on March 13, 1988, and has since been passed by owners, David and Elizabeth Lindsay, to their sons, Alan and Denis, who now proudly run the popular store on Castle Street, Alloa.

In 1988, David and his wife were in the market for a new venture when he said to his wife: “What used to be in Alloa but isn’t anymore?”

“A laundry,” Elizabeth replied, and thus the seeds of a successful business were sown.

From there, the pair have never looked back after renting a unit in Castle Street and after fitting it with washing machines they have provided the whole town with clean clothes ever since.

The business has become a pillar of the community after serving Alloa Athletic and Alloa Rugby Club. The laundry has also washed the clothes of the local police service for over 25 years – a testament to how good their service is.

The whole family, who all still live in Alloa, have now had a hand in running the successful store, and there is no sign of them stopping now.

David told the Advertiser: “The key is just good service. Service should always come first and it has done with us.

“We have served a lot of different businesses down the years including Morgan’s Hairdressers, vets, garages, different football teams and we have had so many loyal private customers, too.

“We still have a lot of people coming in who we have never seen before, and that can only be a good thing because it means people are still telling people about us.

"We took a wee chance by opening it, but 30 years later and it is still going strong.”

David continued: “Me, Elizabeth, Alan and Denis would like to thank all of our loyal customers and would happily welcome more.”
