A TILLICOULTRY couple are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary, having tied the knot 60 years ago today (Thursday, February 22).

Margaret and Don Paton, who have been living in the Wee County for decades, first met at a dance at the Golden Lion Hotel in Stirling.

Originally from Bannockburn, he was working in the foundries in Falkirk while she was born in the city was a secretary at the Drummond Tract Depot.

More recently, Margaret was a medical secretary at Clackmannanshire Community Health Centre for more than two decades and was a volunteer teacher assistant for 15 years at Claremont and later Redwell primaries before retiring.

Moving on from his Falkirk job, Don was a familiar face at the OI glass works in Alloa where he was a personnel officer.

The young couple got married on a lovely day at Allan Park Church in the city where they had met, friends and family later gathered at the Allanwater Hotel in nearby Bridge of Allan to celebrate with fresh snow falling in the evening.

Since then, Margaret and Don had two daughters and three grandchildren.

To celebrate, they are taking the family to a hotel in Kinross for a couple of days.
