A STIRLING man has been fined for an incident he describes as “a riddy”.

Ross McLellan, of Fincastle Place, was charged with assaulting a man in a pub in Menstrie after an argument.

He initially pleaded not guilty but later admitted his role in the incident at Alloa Sheriff Court.

Last Thursday, the prosecutor said that at around 11.30pm, at the Holly Tree Inn, the accused became involved in a verbal altercation with the complainer.

The 30-year-old then struck him by punching him on the head then brandished a pool cue at him.

CCTV showed the assault and the complainer suffered what was first described as a broken nose, although it turned out to be bruising and cuts to his face.

McLellan’s defence agent said that “quite a bit of alcohol was involved” and McLellan had become tangled in an argument between the complainer’s group and a regular.

His solicitor said: “He [McLellan] told the group to calm down. The complainer then approached him and the accused punched him.

“He said he was mortified and described it as a ‘riddy’.”

Sheriff David Mackie fined the accused £350 but decided not to issue a compensation order after hearing the circumstances of the incident.
