A 55-YEAR-OLD man went to a church hall armed with a knife and a hammer and shouted religious abuse.

Ewen McEwen, of Kincairne Street, Kincardine, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court after striking a pillar at the hall with a knife as he shouted at people there.

He admitted that on October 25, at Kincairne Street, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner.

He was repeatedly shouting, swearing, acting in an aggressive manner whilst in possession of a knife and a hammer, struck a pillar with the knife and repeatedly uttered offensive remarks and the offence was aggravated by religious prejudice.

Depute fiscal Ruaridh Ferguson said: “He lives in the same street and his attack was directed against a church parish hall.”

Defence solicitor John Bain told the court: “He was having a number of problems including depression, health and alcohol problems.

“I understand the two properties are adjacent to each other.”

Sheriff Alison McKay said: “The weapons and the religious prejudice aggravation are matters of concern.”

She called for reports and sentence was deferred until November 22.
