WORKS to upgrade the gas network in Menstrie will see temporary traffic lights put in place in the new year.

SGN has consulted with Clackmannanshire Council and will begin work in the Lipney area on Monday, January 8, which will last for a approximately two weeks.

However, the gas network company could not confirm how long the lights will remain on the road from Menstrie to Muirside Roundabout with engineers still finalising the details.

Bradley Barlow, a spokesperson for gas network company SGN, said: "Our engineers are currently finalising their plans before work can begin. Once we have more information we will be able to update local residents more fully on what the work will entail.

"This essential upgrade work involves replacing old, metal gas mains with a new plastic pipe that has a minimum lifespan of 80 years.

"This means that when the work is complete, people will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come."
