STIRLING COUNCIL has won a prestigious national award as team of the year for the innovative project which transformed the region’s waste collection.

The council’s waste service picked up the SOLACE Best Team prize at the COSLA Excellence Awards, which showcase the very best projects in local government, for the implementation of the waste collection Alternative Delivery Model (ADM).

The waste service team enjoyed a double celebration as they also received a Silver Award in the Delivering Better Services category.

The COSLA Excellence Awards celebrate innovative projects that are making a real difference in local communities across the country.

Judges for the SOLACE Best Team Award, which was selected from finalists across all categories, were impressed by the way the team had embarked upon an ambitious transformational change journey to modernise the way Stirling Council works to deliver first-class services for its citizens.

Convener of the Environment and Housing Committee, Councillor Jim Thomson, said: “These awards are a testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff and I would like to congratulate everyone involved with the service. I believe the Best Team award reflects the collaborative approach we have taken towards the transformation plan, with support coming from across council services.

“We resolve not to be complacent in the delivery of our waste services. We will aim to continue to modernise the service, thus improving the customer experience, and make Stirling’s waste service the most innovative in Scotland with the strongest environmental record.”
