A FAMILY firm is celebrating 10 years in business after building a husband-and-wife team into a six-strong workforce.

Kevin Wilson Joiners & Building Contractors marked its milestone anniversary with a birthday party for staff, friends and business colleagues and the launch of a new website.

The Bridge of Allan-based firm was founded by Kevin and Pam Wilson in September 2007 – just months before the financial crisis hit.

They survived the recession and now run a thriving, well-established company which employs four staff and trains apprentices.

Mrs Wilson said: “We’ve come a long way in the past 10 years and wanted to celebrate with a party to thank the many people who’ve helped us get where we are today.

“When we started back in 2007 it was just before the recession and, like many companies, we went through some very tough times.

“We had one make or break situation where we needed work to come in immediately or it was time to sell up and give up.

“Luckily we secured a local job and it didn’t come to that.

“Instead, we got the chance to grow the business, build up good relationships with clients and become well known as a reputable and honest local company.”

The firm, which covers all types of building work from residential renovations and extensions to commercial projects, is led by Kevin Wilson who began his working life as a joiner’s apprentice at the age of 15.

He worked for various companies building up his skills and experience before launching the family business.

He said: “Everyone had a fantastic time at the party which was a chance for us to give something back to the community that has supported us and to look forward to the next ten years.

“We’ve seen a big change from the early days when it was just me and Pam doing everything ourselves and she’d come out and get her hands dirty on jobs helping me fit kitchens and sand down walls.

“We’ve got four staff now including two apprentices and my dad Graham – who has been a major support over the past ten years – also lends a hand when needed.

“We’re lucky to have such a great team and we’re aware we have a big responsibility to make sure the next ten years are a success for their future as well as for ours.”

The Wilsons, who have two children, are well known in Bridge of Allan where they sponsor one of the Christmas lights each year and also put up all the festive light plaques on the town’s lamp-posts.

They raise funds annually for local charities So Precious and The Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund as well as sponsoring and donating bespoke joinery items for So Precious events.

Their building successes include renovations to scores of homes in Bridge of Allan and the surrounding area and the transformation of commercial premises including The Birds and The Bees pub and The Borestone Bar in Stirling.

The firm will be unveiling a new website to coincide with the 10-year anniversary.
