CONCERNS have been raised over the damage caused by ongoing Scottish Power works on Dumyat.

Hikers have drawn attention to the damage caused by the use of heavy duty machinery as part of the path works programme.

And constituents have called upon Keith Brown MSP to take up the issue with the gas and electricity company.

The Clackmannanshire and Dunblane politician will now meet with Scottish Power in a bid to resolve the issue.

He said: “I am deeply concerned that the path works that have been undertaken in the last few weeks have created a real eyesore and have raised questions as to whether these mitigation works, which were in themselves to enhance the local area following the line installation, are being carried out in compliance with conditions previously set out.

“I have contacted Scottish Power to raise these matters and have received assurances that works have been suspended until a meeting is held with key stakeholders in the near future to agree the most appropriate way forward.”

The MSP said he will meet with the company’s representatives this week to seek guarantees that the views of local residents will be taken into account and a solution found to protect the hill’s landscape.

Meanwhile, Scottish Power has assured people it is undertaking the works to restore the existing Dumyat Hill and Cocksburn Reservoir Paths in a sensitive manner.

A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks said: “This project was agreed as part of the Beauly to Denny mitigation works and will take approximately 12 weeks to complete.

“We have paused work at present and are meeting with our partners and key stakeholders to build on previous discussions and consultations to plan this work.

“This project is being carried out by specialist contractors who carefully and thoughtfully consider the landscape and when completed we hope there will be a significant benefit to the community and members of the public who visit the location.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this work may be causing and we thank the local community and general public for their patience and cooperation during this period.”
