STIRLING is set to be boosted by Scottish Government funding for the Walk, Cycle, Live project to support physical activities.

The funding is part of a £22.5million grant for five projects across the country from Transport Scotland, being delivered through Sustrans Scotland.

The project comprises of two key active travel routes that allow Stirling to operate as a sustainable and vibrant city, improving pedestrian routes from the city centre to the city park, as well as creating a direct integrated link between Stirling city centre and Stirling Bridge and onwards to Raploch, Cornton, Causewayhead and Bridge of Allan.

Stirling's SNP MSP, Bruce Crawford, said: “This is very welcome news for Stirling and will undoubtedly help support local jobs and our local economy, as well as of course boosting efforts to get more people in Stirling involved in walking, running and cycling.

“This funding announcement will play a key role in getting people active across Stirling, helping to reduce air pollution caused by traffic while encouraging healthy lifestyles.

“And it follows the SNP Scottish Government’s announcement that the total active travel budget is to be doubled to £80million as part of the Active Nation strategy.

“This project will help create a more integrated transport network in Stirling and beyond, supporting pedestrian routes from the city centre to city park, university, Stirling Bridge and on to Bridge of Allan.

“Active travel is a vital part of the Scottish Government’s transport strategy – and the funding for Walk, Cycle, Live will be a great boost to people across Stirling as we seek to become a more active nation and society.”
