WORK is to begin on the Main Street in Tullibody later this month, which will see temporary traffic lights put in place until late October.

SGN will upgrade the town's gas network by investing £170,000 to replace the old mains and services with new plastic pipe.

The work, which will start on Monday, September 25, is intended to provide a continued safe and reliable gas supply to local homes and businesses for a number of years.

Hannah Brett, a spokesperson for gas network company SGN, said: "To ensure everyone’s safety around our work area, we need to install temporary three-way traffic lights in Main Street at its junction Ochil Street for approximately two weeks.

"Once we’ve upgraded this section of our network, we’ll move further south along Main Street to its junction with Abercromby Place. We’ll have temporary three-way lights around our work area here for another two weeks from Monday 9 October.

"Once we’ve finished replacing our gas main in Main Street, we’ll be progressing through a number of roads alongside Main Street to upgrade the gas mains in those streets. This work will last until the end of the December, but we shouldn’t need to use temporary traffic lights in these roads."
