THERE'S more traffic misery ahead with Kincardine Bridge to be shut overnight for £350,000 of roadworks.

From Tuesday July 18, it will close to all traffic from 8pm to 6am until the morning of Saturday July 22.

There will then be single lane closures around the clock with all of the work due to be completed by Friday August 25.

It's the fourth of seven phases of essential maintenance on the 81-year-old bridge and will see the road surface replaced, the waterproofing of the bridge deck and new expansion joints on two of the south viaduct spans.

When it is closed overnight, diversions will be in place to take traffic over the adjacent Clackmannanshire Bridge.

From Saturday July 22, there will be temporary traffic lights in place and a single lane closure on the westbound carriageway.

The repair scheme will then switch over on Sunday August 6 with a single lane closure on the eastbound carriageway.

The dates and work are weather dependent and may be subject to change.

The pedestrian and cycle paths will remain open throughout the duration of the works.

Amey, who will carry out the job, said the scheme will reduce the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Since 2015, more than £900,000 has been spent on improvements works for the Kincardine Bridge.

This has seen 530 tonnes of new asphalt laid, re-waterproofing of around 2,950 square metres of bridge deck, maintenance to almost five cubic metres of damaged concrete and the replacement of seven expansion joints.
