THE Orange Walk is coming into Alloa tomorrow, with a number of roads in and out of the town restricted to traffic.

Access to properties on Queen Street, Hill Street, Hill Park, Kings Court, Erskine Street, Sunnyside Court and a section of Tullibody Road outside Greenfield House will be totally restricted.

The main meeting of the Boyne Parade will be at the West End Park around 12noon with the march itself taking a circular route around the town – proceeding along Grange Road, Bedford Place, Bank Street, Mill Street, Mar Street, Tullibody Road, Parkway, Sunnyside Road, Hill Street, Ashley Terrace, Hill Place, Hill Street, back onto Tullibody Road and ending on Ludgate.

The 73 bands and 10,000 supporters that are expected to turn up will go past four places of worship, with organisers insisting they will instruct members to stop playing when passing by.

  • No waiting or loading will be allowed on Castle Street and Greenhouse Loan near the glassworks between 5am and 6pm on the day. They will be completely closed off between 8am and 6pm.
  • A section of the A907 between Arnsbrae and Marshill will be shut to motors between 8am and 6pm while the Shillinghill to Marshill section westbound will also be closed between 10am and 6pm.
  • Restrictions will prohibit waiting or loading on Ludgate and Hill Street between 12noon and 6pm.
  • Rolling road closures will be in place too in a few places for shorter times – on Greenside Street, Union Street, Bank Street, Bedford Place and Grange Road between 10am and 10.45am.
  • Another set of rolling closures will affect Grange Road, Bedford Place, Bank Street, Mill Street, Mar Street, the B9096 Tullibody Road, Parkway, Sunnyside Road, Ashley Terrace, Hill Place, Hill Street, Tullibody Road and Ludgate between 12.30pm and 4.30pm.

Around 100 police officers are expected to line the streets in Alloa and have issued a warning about misbehaviour on the day.

The caution comes following an incident at last week's parade in Glasgow, in which some supporters of the parade were caught on camera singing the sectarian 'Famine Song'.

Chief Inspector Drew Sinclair, area commander for Clackmannanshire, said: “My priority for this event is public safety, for those participating, spectating and the general public in Alloa.

“There are thousands of people attending our county from various areas and this will have an impact on daily life and business.

“Although we have been working closely with event organisers and the local authority to minimise disruption to road users and the local community, it is inevitable that there will be delays and we ask everyone to plan their day and journey accordingly.

"I would like to remind everyone attending the event that all forms of hate crime are unacceptable and will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly. Drinking alcohol in public in Clackmannanshire is an offence and will be strictly monitored by officers to ensure it does not lead to disorder and anti-social behaviour in our community."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman added: “Any sectarian behaviour is completely unacceptable and anyone who is found to be partaking in this type of criminality will be robustly dealt with.

“Anyone wishing to report a sectarian related crime can do so through contacting Police Scotland on 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

While there will be plenty of restrictions and closures, people should still be able to access the town centre.

A spokesperson for Clackmannanshire Council said: “We are working with event organisers and the police to put arrangements in place in respect of public safety and to assist with minimising disruption.

“Alloa town centre will still be accessible.”

Buses coming in and out of Alloa will be diverted too.

Between 8am and 6pm, services 62/62A/63/63A will be diverted in Tullibody via Menstrie Road, B9140 King O Muirs Road, B908 Fairfield in Sauchie, Parkhead, Hallpark, Whins Road nad King Street, resuming the normal route at Shillinghill.

A section of the B9096 Tullibody and Alloa Road will see no service.

The H1 service will be diverted along the same route, also skipping Tullibody.
