RESIDENTS are invited to attend Transition Stirling's inaugural free repair cafe in early July.

Anyone can take along their old broken items, from small electrical items and tools to clothing, furniture and jewellery.

Volunteer experts will be on hand to help individuals learn to repair the products at no cost.

Emma Irwin, project manager of Transition Stirling, said: “We're really excited to introduce the repair cafe concept to Stirling.

“Every year a huge amount of things are thrown away which could not be given a new lease of life with just a simple repair.

“Repair cafes not only help people to repair these items but bring people together to share their skills in a friendly environment.”

The concept originated in the Netherlands as a way to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill each year.

It is now set to be a regular event in the city and is the latest from the Transition Stirling tool library project, which is funded by the Scottish Government.

The tool library is based in the Stirling Arcade and allows people to borrow all sorts of equipment.

Stirling's first repair cafe will be held between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, July 8.
