STUDENTS from Stirling High were among a group who took part in Forth Ports new learning and development initiative.

Discovery Week, held between last Monday and Friday, saw pupils from various Forth Valley schools come together and take part in interactive events.

They were given the opportunity to experience a detailed tour of the port and learn about its health and safety.

The Forth Ports marine, operations and engineering team then hosted a talk sharing information about their own roles.

Practical activities aimed at developing career skills were also organised, including CV creation, interviewing and teambuilding exercises.

Catherine Ilett, learning and development manager from Forth Ports, said: “Discovery Week is a new development for Forth Ports which has been designed to build upon and improve our offering to meet the growing requests we receive for work experience placements from school students.

“From feedback, this first week in Grangemouth has been a real success and we hope that the students take away some key learning points to take them forward in their careers.

“At Forth Ports, people are our biggest asset and we aim to grow our own people through continuous learning and development.

“Discovery Week is a good way for us to engage with young people early as they begin to think about their career path.”
