World tennis number one Andy Murray will feature on the new official Monopoly game for Stirling.

The Dunblane-born athlete, who exited the French Open to Stan Warinka last Friday, looks set to appear on one of the landmarks of his hometown.

Winning Moves UK are producing this edition of the game, expected to be released later this year.

Emma Lodwick, custom games executive, said: “We are absolutely delighted to feature the world’s number one tennis star in the game and from the public and retail reaction we believe this will be the Christmas number one seller this year.”

It is unclear where exactly the Scottish star will be found on the board but Dunblane Cathedral, where he married wife Kim Sears, was a strong favourite in a poll run in May.

Ms Lodwick added: “We invited the public to help us put this special edition together by sending in votes and suggestions.

“The votes were wonderful and we are going through each and every one. We would like to thank everyone who has taken this new game to their hearts.”

The game will see famous addresses such as Park Lane and Regent Street replaced by around 30 leading Stirling landmarks.

Mr Murray's glittering tennis career started in the city where he trained as a youngster at the University of Stirling.

In 2014, he praised its excellence as he was awarded a doctorate by the university.

He is one of three people to be given the freedom of the city of Stirling.

The game will be released in October and will be available at major retailers.
