MATCH report from Bannockburn Amateur Football Club:

Bannockburn Amateur FC 1 Colville Park AFC 3

Bannockburn lamented on their first half performance as Colville Park ended their RJM Sports Scottish Amateur Cup run.

A large crowd flocked to the sun at Bannockburn High School and saw the home side start well.

Andy McGown sent several long-range passes toward Darren Walker in the initial exchanges.

After eight minutes the visitors took the lead after an apparently easy route through the Burn defence.

As the half continued Burn seemed unable to get the ball down and play their passing game. Conversely Colville looked dangerous on every attack and in particular on break.

Colville did double their lead on 24 when the Burn defence played statues at a corner.

With Burn still trying to get into a playing rhythm the linesman intervened to get Gary Currie booked.

This was unusual because the home support expected the visitors' number 7 to be cautioned. On the cusp of half time Steven Knox had Burn’s first shot on target giving an easy save for keeper.

Within 90 seconds of the restart Burn opened their account. Playing out of defence McGown found Stuart Maitland and slotted in David Donaldson whose cross Walker headed home.

Michael Weir replaced Ross Cavanagh and made an immediate impact crossing dangerously for Walker. Colville number 7 was booked for an elbow then was involved again in collision with David Donaldson.

Donaldson was unable to continue and John McGregor replaced him in the sixty fifth minute.

Burn huffed and puffed including a free kick from McGown. Although the better side they couldn’t convert.

With a minute to go the referee awarded the visitors a penalty which they netted making it, and the final score, 1:3.

Bannockburn return to league and M&M cup business after their squad members return from international duties with the Scotland Amateur team.

Next game will be April, 8. Thanks to the Tartan Arms for the after-match hospitality.
