A YOUNG man who pushed a 12-year-old boy has been sentenced to a week in jail.

On Thursday at Alloa Sheriff Court, Kenneth Bridges admitted the assault, which took place at an address in The Maltings in Tullibody on November 17 last year.

The 20-year-old also pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of alcohol from Newmills Licensed Grocers in Tullibody on November 26, 2016.

Defending, Kelly Howe explained that her client, who appeared from custody, was currently serving a 12 month sentence for another crime and was not due for release until July.

Bridges, formerly of Alloa's High Street, was said to be taking advantage of the educational classes on offer in prison and had already completed an engineering module with the hope to progress onto joinery.

Sheriff David Mackie fined the accused £150. With no means or time to pay, the amount was converted into seven days in jail.
