THERE was excitement, and perhaps some tension in the air, at this year's Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Rotary Club Primary School Quiz.

On Friday, March 10, pupils from six schools in Dunblane and Bridge of Allan gathered in Bridge of Allan Church Hall for the thrilling contest.

The quiz was the preliminary round in the rotary area competition, with the winners from each area going forward to the semi-finals in Perth.

Schools represented were Dunblane Primary School, Newton Primary School, St Mary’s Episcopal Primary School, Queen Victoria Junior School, Bridge of Allan Primary School and the junior section of Beaconhurst School.

Questions were grouped in ten topics, including geography, mathematics, literature, sport and the natural world.

Early leaders were Newton, closely followed by Bridge Of Allan.

There was a nail-biting finish that saw Newton just holding off the Bridge of Allan’s challenge, and ultimately carrying off the winner’s shield.

A close third was St Mary’s, which was neck and neck with Bridge of Allan for much of the time.

All-in-all, pupils left pleased with their efforts, and well-satisfied that they had done themselves justice.

Meanwhile, there will be a meeting on April 6 in the Westlands Hotel, Doune Road, at 6pm for 6.30pm.

The speaker will be Tim Cocking who will talk about his company Brightcare, which is a provider of private elderly care.
