Jonesy's Boxing Club was represented at the Scottish Schools Championships by eight boxers at Ravenscraig Sports Centre, Motherwell last weekend.

It was a very early start for the boxers who left the gym not long after 6.30am, due to early weigh ins in Motherwell with some waiting up to six hours for their bouts.

However, the young athletes were unfazed and turn out great performances for the Plean-based club.

There was some disappointing news for boxers Lee Welsh and Marky Alexander, who after intense training were unable to showcase their hard work in the ring due to no shows on the day from their opposition.

Putting their own disappointment to one side they stood by their team and cheered on the other six boxers who had great success.

The other Jonsey's boxers all medalled, with Allan Perrie, Colin Cairney and Sophie Stewart all picking up gold medals, claiming the title of Scottish Champion in their respective weight categories at the same time.

Meanwhile, Jake Todd, Josh Alexander and Jack White all grabbed silver medals on the day.

Next up for Jonesy's Boxing Club is the Youth Scottish Championships where home fighters John Casey and Billie Denholm are fighting over the weekend of March 11-12.

Allen Gibson, Active Stirling's club development officer, said: "I visited the club on the evening of Friday. February 24, on the eve of the championships, and the mood in the gym was inspiring.

"Team Jonesy's have a real family bond and you can see each and every one of the coaches and fighters wants the best for their teammates.

"I am overjoyed for the club and we can clearly see from this example that hard work really does pays off."
