LOCAL MP Steven Paterson joined Trossachs and Teith Councillor Fergus Wood on a visit to the site of the new biomass plant to be located in Acharn Forest, outside Killin.

Due for completion in September this year, the power plant uses virgin timber to generate heat and produce electricity.

Once completed, the 6 megawatt Combined Head and Power (CHP) project could power up to around 10,000 homes.

The plant will employ approximately up to 20 people upon completion – making it a long-term investment to the local economy.

Mr Paterson said: "This is a very impressive project and, once completed, will take on an important role in our move towards a cleaner renewable energy sector.

"The project from the start has involved local companies and engaged with local organisations and I hope this continues as it looks to provide promising employment opportunities too."

Cllr Wood said: "I’m excited about this project and its potential – not just as an employer and source of renewable energy – but the involvement of the local community could lead us to creative use of the heat generated from the plant’s operations.

"Already, we have heard of suggestions of the possibilities growing tomatoes and other produce with this heat – this is something that would really engage the local community in a positive way."
