THE first-ever deaf-friendly Burns Supper will be held in Glasgow this month.

The event on Saturday, January 28, is being organised by the National Deaf Children's Charity and will be a traditional evening with one big difference – all the proceedings will be interpreted in British Sign Language.

Starting at 7pm in the Blythswood Square Hotel, the signed supper will include a drinks reception, a three-course meal and a ceilidh.

The event is also marking the progress of the BSL (Scotland) Act and celebrates the charity's new Everyone Together project, which aims to improve early years support for deaf children.

Angela Bonomy, Scotland director at the charity, said: “This is an exciting development for one of Scotland’s most popular and widely celebrated events, the Burns Supper.

“We believe that every deaf child should be valued and included by society, and have the same opportunities as anyone else – so making this uniquely Scottish celebration accessible to both hearing and deaf people is something we’re very proud of.”

Guests are asked to donate £50 to the charity to help support deaf children and their families.
