A MEN’S group recently ‘braved the shave’ to help fund its activities.

The Man Up Group held a sponsored shave at the Hawkhill Community Centre on November 30.

A total of three brave guys lost their hair while four had their beards chopped.

The self-help group regularly take part in activities around the community and the event was to help fund its work and make sure the club can continue.

Kirk Kennedy, a founding member of the group who volunteered to have his head shaved, said: “The beard and moustache initially came from Movember (Foundation) to raise awareness for prostate cancer.

“Rather than raising money for Movember, for cancer awareness, it was decided that we would raise some of the funds for our own group.

“Not all of us are in a position to grow moustaches or beards, so some said ‘well, I cannot grow a moustache or beard, so I’ll shave my head’.”

While money is still coming in, it is estimated that around £400 was raised for the men.

Mr Spiers added: “I would like to thank my neighbours, family and all my old workmates at Land Services, Clackmannanshire Council, for all their generous donations.”

The Man Up Group is always on the lookout for new members and holds regular meetings at 11am every Monday in the Hawkhill centre and any male over 16 is welcome to attend.

The aim of these sessions is to allow the men to support each other and be sociable.

It costs £1 which goes towards tea and coffee.
