A PIPER joined celebrations at the formal opening ceremony of Falck Renewable’s 22.5MW Kingsburn wind farm in the Campsie Hills, between Stirling and Glasgow.
Operated by Kingsburn Wind Energy Ltd, part of Falck Renewables, the wind farm features nine turbines and is expected to generate enough clean, green energy to supply 17,800 homes.
The wind farm, which was opened on October 17, creates local full-time jobs for the local economy and as part of the development, Falck Renewables will establish a community benefit fund of £5000 per MW to support educational, environmental and community initiatives in the local area.
Toni Volpe, Chief Executive of Falck Renewables said: “Kingsburn wind farm marks our tenth wind farm in the UK and will give the community more than £100,000 every year to invest. We are committed to investing in Scotland and delivering more renewable energy to meet international targets for carbon reduction. By next spring we will have 415MW of power generation operating across the UK, of which almost 350MW will be in Scotland.”
