A STIRLING pub is raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support this weekend.

Staff at The Springkerse View will be taking part in an exercise bike cycling challenge as part of the annual Macmillan Month.

The Greene King pub is taking part in the company's 'Around the world in 80 pubs' – combined together, the chain's pubs will cycle enough miles to circumnavigate the globe.

Team members and volunteers will be cycling 312 miles in each pub over three days by taking part in 30 or 60 minute stints.

Funds raised from the event will help Macmillan make sure no one faces cancer alone.

Iain Paterson, general manager of The Springkerse View, said: “We’re so excited to kick off our fundraising for Macmillan, and we’re really looking forward to taking part in ‘Around the world in 80 pubs’.

“Everyone knows somebody who has been affected by cancer, whether it is a friend, somebody in their family or a colleague, and events like these are a great way to involve the local community to support such an important cause.”

Greene King has raised £2million for Macmillan since 2012 and the pub company and brewer has announced it will extend its existing charity partnership for a further three years.

Rachel Gascoigne, partnership manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Events like these are the reason why our partnership with Greene King has been so successful.

“We’re incredibly grateful for The Springkerse View and their guests’ support, and I’d like to wish them all a huge good luck for their Macmillan event.”
