The director of the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund has cycled across Scotland to urge supporters and the wider public to go the extra mile to help people in need in some of the world’s poorest countries.

Alistair Dutton started his 200-mile with Mass and a family fun day at Carfin Grotto near Motherwell on Sunday, August 14. The tour finished in Stirling on Saturday, August 20 with an interview with Stirling City Radio.

On the very final leg of his tour Alistair cycled from Edinburgh via Dunfermline to meet local people and take part in an interview with Stirling City Radio DJ Willie Mackenzie.

After the interview Alistair chose a song which reflected his journey over the course of the week – ‘Weather with you’ by Crowded House.

Along the route the SCIAF director met with prisoners in Shotts Prison, was interviewed on Hospital Radio, visited the Department for International Development, took part in a special fundraising SCIAF 5-a-side football competition, met with Alasdair Allan MSP, Minister for International Development and Europe, as well as meeting thousands of supporters in parishes and schools along the route.

Speaking about his week-long road tour, Alistair said: “It was great to meet everyone at Stirling City Radio Station and in the Stirling Arcade today, they made me feel very welcome. Nearly a billion people in the world today go hungry every day because they are too poor to be able to buy food.

"We can all do something to help them work their way out of poverty. I’m cycling across Scotland to urge supporters and the wider public to go the extra mile for SCIAF so together we can help more people in need.

“Every day, SCIAF and our partners are working in some of the poorest countries in the world, helping hundreds of thousands of people with seeds, farm tools, skills training and small loans so that they can buy more food, set up a business, and earn some money so they can support themselves and their families. I’ll be urging people to join the SCIAF family and help us on the road to creating a more just world for all.”
