THIS September, the country is invited to the Best Wee Party in Scotland.

Hosted by the team behind the Stirling Fringe Festival, the new-look The Shindig is a three day arts extravaganza held in the yard of Stirling’s historic Old Town Jail.

The event, which runs from September 9 - 11, has a range of attractions, including live music from The Voice winner Stevie McCrorie, stand-up from Capital FM Breakfast Show host Des Clarke, children’s theatre, DJs, storytelling, spoken word event with Glasgow rapper Loki, a family ceilidh and a screening of iconic Scottish film Gregory’s Girl to make the film’s 35th anniversary.

The festival site will also house performance marquees, an acoustic zone yurt, beer tastings, street perfumers, gin bar, face painting, global street food and street performers to entertain the entire family.

Festival director Barry McDonald said: "By holding the festival in the one iconic venue we hope to create an unrivalled small festival atmosphere. Many of the events, including some by international musicians and award-winning comedians, are free so it’s the perfect location to spend the weekend."

Paul Bush OBE, director of events at VisitScotland, said: "Once again we are delighted to be supporting the Stirling Fringe in its new 2016 incarnation as The Shindig. While the name is different, the high quality of the programme remains, showcasing both Scottish and international acts.

"Scotland is the perfect stage for cultural events, and in the Stirling Fringe we have a festival that will capture the imagination of visitors from both the local area and further afield."
